Tony’s Take: 10 Things Moving the Needle in Financial Literacy

👋 Welcome to The Get Ready Movement Newsletter

Each week, I share what’s catching my attention in the world of financial literacy—from trends and tools to the people reshaping how we teach, talk about, and take action around money. Whether you're a financial educator, advisor, or someone who just wants to stay informed, here’s what I think matters this week.

10 Things I Think (About Money, Life & What’s Next)

1. Action Prompt: Review Your Savings Strategy (Week 22)

📌 Action: Have a plan for saving money.

💭 Tony’s Take: Saving money for the future is how you will meet your goals such as creating a safety net fund, buying a home, and achieving financial independence.

2. Strategy of the week:

💡Check your progress saving for your goals. Add up how much you’re saving for these categories (it’s okay to estimate):

  • Rainy Day (emergency) fund.
  • Short-term goals.
  • Medium-term goals.
  • Long-term goals.
  • Other goals.

💭 Tony’s Take: Monitoring your progress allows you to see what you’ve accomplished and where changes may be needed. This is a journey and not a race.

3. Big Question to Ask:

❓Are there any changes in your life that may impact your savings strategy?

💭 Tony’s Take: A strategy helps you meet your goals. Your strategy should evolve as your life changes.

4. Financial literacy has no borders.

🌍 The Get Ready Money Podcast has now been heard in 100+ countries!

💭 Tony’s Take: This milestone makes clear that financial literacy is a global issue. Thank you to everyone supporting the podcast.

5. Suddenly Single: Divorced, Widowed, Separated

Did you know that women outlive men by five to 10 years? In fact, 85% of people who live to be 100 years old are women.

💭 Tony’s Take: Major life events require intentional planning. Start before the “what ifs” happen (especially for women).

6. Build Your Financial Dream Team

🔑 3 Key takeaways:

🔹 Advisors need to communicate, and work together to find solutions for the clients.

🔹 Teaming up with other experts uncovers blind spots.

🔹 Going beyond your expertise can cost your clients significantly, you can’t be an expert in all things.

💭 Tony’s Take: Most people wouldn’t rely on just one doctor for everything — so why do that with money?

7.  Low-Stakes Life vs. High-Stakes Life: How I Learned to Truly Live

Are you existing or truly living?  Ask yourself: How high are your stakes in life?

💭 Tony’s Take: Prudence Zhu is one of my favorite writers on money and life. In this article she challenges us to think about how our goals should be the driving force, rather than our money.

8.  Rewrite Your Money Story Today!

🔑 3 Key takeaways:

🔹 Forgive yourself for your money mistakes.

🔹 Financial well-being is 80% behavior, 20% knowledge.

🔹 Seek advice from qualified voices.

💭 Tony’s Take: Own your money story. Forgive the past and own your future.

9.  Why Your Self-Worth Is Not Your Net Worth: The Real Cost of Financial Shame

A deep dive into the emotional roots of this toxic money narrative—and why it’s costing you far more than just dollars (Part 1).

How To Untangle Your Identity from Your Finances: The Separation Process. a framework to help you shift from financial shame to clarity, resilience, and empowerment (Part 2).

💭 Tony’s Take: How you feel about yourself when it comes to money has a huge impact on your financial journey. Shifting your mindset will lead to success and confidence.

10. Estate Planning Made Manageable

Estate planning is about communication, not just documents. Having the tough conversations with family now can save heartache and confusion later.

💭 Tony’s Take: Estate planning is something that we do for those we leave behind. It’s a gift to our loved ones of clarity and care.
