Tony’s Take: 10 Things Moving The Needle In Money This Week

Aug 08, 2025
Connect

Thanks for being part of The Get Ready Movement—changing how we think (and talk) about money.

Each week, I spotlight what’s shaping the future of financial fluency—from trends and tools to the people transforming how we apply, communicate, and make intentional choices with money.

1. Weekly Action Prompt

📌 Action: Week 32: Review Your Wills and Trusts. Wills and trusts allow you to choose who receives your assets when you pass away.

đź’ Tony’s Take: If you die without a will, your assets will be distributed according to state law—which may not align with your wishes. Estate planning is your voice when you're no longer here.

2. Strategy of the week:

đź’ˇKeep your will and trusts up to date to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your current wishes.

📉 Work with a qualified estate planning attorney to ensure that your plan is done properly.

💭 Tony’s Take: Your estate documents are only useful if people know they exist. Let your executor—and a trusted loved one—know where to find them.

3. Big Question to Ask

❓Have you reviewed your will and trust(s) after any recent life events?

💭 Tony’s Take: Most people delay updating estate documents. Reviewing after major life events like marriage, divorce, or new children ensures your plan reflects your current values.

4. Making a Real Impact in Philanthropy

🔹 Why philanthropy is a gateway to deeper family conversations
🔹 How advisors can bring real value without needing to be experts
🔹 The importance of listening, asking better questions, and building trust
🔹 How you can help align your wealth with your values

💭 Tony’s Take: Philanthropy isn’t just about giving—it’s about meaning, legacy, and connection. We’re entering a new era of wealth and philanthropy—driven by demographic shifts, evolving family dynamics, and a desire to do more with our money.

5. Are Your Own Money Beliefs Affecting Your Advice?

How Advisors Can Recognize and Manage Personal Biases. For advisors, these unconscious influences can subtly - but significantly - affect everything from how we frame a recommendation to how we respond to client hesitation.

đź’ Tony’s Take: Self-awareness matters. When we understand our own money beliefs, we become better advisors—and better advocates for our clients.

6.  Disability Insurance and Why You Need It

A conversation about something really important that most people don’t think about—what happens if you get sick or hurt and can’t work. Why the insurance your job gives you might not be enough.

đź’ Tony’s Take: Anyone who depends on their income should have disability insurance. Group coverage often has gaps—review it like any other asset in your financial plan.

🎙️ Acquania Escarne and Naseema McElroy on the Financially Intentional podcast. Watch it (here).

7. Rethinking Retirement: The Emotional, Purpose-Driven Side of Life After Work

The emotional landscape of retirement and why most planning misses the mark. Together, they unpack the “Retirement Reinvention Curve,” a three-phase, eight-stage model that reflects the psychological shifts retirees experience.

đź’ Tony’s Take: Retirement is more than a financial milestone, it’s a major life transition. Retirement is about more than the numbers, it’s about having purpose.

🎙️ Dan Haylett and Melissa Joy on the Money Wisdom Podcast. Check it out (here).

8. YES: Sydney Sweeney cashes checks

She is a proud sell-out. And by the way she is not alone in deciding that money should be a priority. A look at the financial grownup lessons that pundits are missing. Expenses are just as important as income.

đź’ Tony’s Take: Pro athletes get praised for maximizing short earning windows. Why shouldn’t entertainers? Sydney’s doing what any financially savvy person would do.

9. IS There A Future Of Financial Planning In The AI Era?

How AI will reshape the tasks advisors perform and the value they bring to client relationships

đź’ Tony’s Take: AI can’t replace empathy. Advisors who connect, communicate, and truly listen will be the ones who thrive.
